The stories of Bosnian-Dutch people about the genocide in Srebrenica are given a permanent place in Dutch history.

De 11 stemmen van Srebrenica (The 11 Voices of Srebrenica) is a multimedia project that tells the stories of Bosnian-Dutch people about the genocide in Srebrenica. Thirty years after the genocide, attention has mainly been focused on ‘Dutchbat’ and still hardly on the stories of first and second-generation survivors. Despite the fact that there are over 62.000 Bosnian Dutch people living in the Netherlands! Through the podcast The 11 Voices of Srebrenica and the exhibitions of the same name, these stories are given a permanent place in Dutch history, deepening and broadening the existing picture.

Mayra & Sam are responsible for the design of the visual identity, the two exhibitions, and all communications related to the project. Together with Bosnian-Dutch artist Anita Karabašić, we developed the recognizable image of the Srebrenica flower to be used for this project. The eleven white petals represent the innocence of the victims and July 11, the date of the genocide, while the green heart symbolizes hope for a better future, justice, and a world without hatred. Together with color gradients that range from cheerful to ominous, and the elegant typography, this forms the versatile visual identity of the project.

Volkskrant:

De 11 Stemmen van Srebrenica is much more than just a series of gruesome stories.

NRC:
“There is so much fear in our bodies,” says a survivor. That fear can be felt, heard, and seen in two impressive exhibitions.
