Amsterdam, early twentieth century. As a young and passionate typographer, Izaak joins the Jewish printing firm Joachimsthal. It is to be the start of what seems to be a glorious career in which 'De Vries van Joachimsthal' managed to make the printing company a great success. Hebrew scriptures, magazines, and books roll off the press. Until the Nazi regime assigns a different narrative to Joachimsthal that endangers the life of Izaak and his son Wiet.

In the publication De Vries van Joachimsthal photographs, historical documents, printed matter, and archived newspaper articles unfold a story about a love for the craft of printing, impossible choices in barbaric times, and unimaginable perseverance.
